I fly regularly on Southwest 737-300s and -700s. Usually I try to snag a seat near the front on the either side, but I am wondering where is the best, most comfortable to sit. Can you offer me some insider info?

The “most comfortable” place to sit means different things to different people. Having said that, I think we can help you out.

First things first, as far as the physical seat is concerned, all are about the same on most Southwest 737s. Some offer a bit more legroom, some have no recline or limited recline, and some are positioned nearer the lavatories and galley, but you can see all of those details on our seat maps.

But what you want is the “insider info,” the tips and tricks you can’t discover by looking at a seat map.

Well, did you know that there is a “Secret First Class” on all Southwest flights, located just behind the exit rows? Or how about that there are three rows where you’ll be served drinks before all others? Do you know how to avoid sitting next to children and/or how to choose your seat mate, rather than let them choose you?

Contributors to the FlyerGuide Wiki graciously share all of these bits of Southwest seat selection wisdom, and much more.

After you’ve read all of this information posted by these “FlyerGuides” you will know how to maximize your chances of sitting next to an empty middle seat, or an attractive seat mate … whichever you prefer.
