I am flying Amsterdam-Atlanta with Delta. I have sleep apnea and have to use a CPAP. Today I found out that Delta planes only have electrical outlets in first class according to my travel agent. Is that right?
The AMS-ATL route is normally served by Delta’s Boeing 767-400 ER. While many planes of this configuration have powerports in coach, it varies from aircraft to aircraft. On top of that, some of the powerports are AC, and some are special emPower plugs. The best bet is to select seats as far forward as possible, as the first 8 to 10 rows in economy class are more likely to have shared powerports.
If you must depend on a continuous supply of power, we suggest that you call Delta and ask to add this medical necessity to your record, and request seats as forward as possible. Make sure that you bring with you an emPower adaptor, just in case your aircraft does not have the universal AC plugs.
something else to consider–if your CPAP has a built-in heated humidifier you will probably have to turn off the heat … i travelled CDG-SFO on AF (which provides 110vac at seats in business class) and i plugged in my CPAP, got my headgear on, and breathed a few times … the CPAP fired up and i got one or two breaths before the system turned off. tried it again … same effect. turned off the heating part of the humidifier and i got six hours of awesome sleep.
good luck!
I flew Delta from TLV – ATL and used my CPAP in coach with the humidifier. Got 8 hours of great sleep and no thunderous snoring to bother the other passengers.
