What company makes the seats for the Boeing 737 and who makes the seats for the Airbus? Does the two different airplane manufacturers use the same seat company?

There are multiple seat manufacturers for both Boeing and Airbus aircraft, so there is no direct correlation to one manufacturer for Boeing and another for Airbus. Furthermore, even on the same aircraft, seats for First class might be manufactured by a different company than the seats for Business or Economy class.

The same seat design as installed on different airlines could vary widely as well, since all seats could be purchased from the manufacturers with many different options:

  • The pitch (distance between row) as installed, this is determined by the airlines themselves, and not controlled by the seat manufacturer
  • Fabric or leather covering of the seat
  • In-flight Entertainment equipment installed
  • Whether power ports are installed
  • Whether foot rests are installed
  • Tray design
  • Location of literature pocket
  • Style and location of head-rest
  • “Wings” on head rest
  • Recline angle on the seat
  • …etc.

  1. Is it possible for the general public, like myself, to purchase
a first class seat direct from one of the manufacturers?
